The Isdera Commendatore 112i unveiled in 1993 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, is a rare and innovative supercar that bankrupted its maker.
It was four years in the making with a price tag of £500,000.
It was a two-door coupé featuring gullwing doors, pop-up headlights, and an aerodynamic shape.
The design was inspired by Le Mans race cars.
The engine was a 6.0-litre Mercedes-Benz V12 producing 414bhp.
Thanks to its aluminium space frame, it reached 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and 210 mph with a 6-speed manual transmission.
It had height-adjustable suspension, like Germany’s 220mph inter-city trains.
It is fitted with advanced technology, including a rear-view camera and a periscope mirror for reduced drag.
With gullwing doors and a periscope mirror, the 112i is perfect for those moments when you want to say, ‘I’m eccentric, and I know it.’
Its market target was the high-end supercar collector.
It was featured in the 1997 ‘Need for Speed II’ video game.
Woefully, Isdera only built one.
Production and development were financially unsustainable, plus the 1993 economic downturn affected the luxury car market.
In 1999, a Swiss consortium updated the Isdera to ‘Silver Arrow’.
Isdera subsequently returned to its 1993 original specification.
In 2021, RM Sotheby’s sold it at auction for €1,113,125.
‘Owning an Isdera Commendatore 112i is like having a unicorn in your garage. It’s rare, magical, and makes everyone question your balance of mind’
