The Love Child

‘Designed in Barcelona, built in Turin, and born on the Nürburgring.’

In 2003, Fuore Design International, a little-known Barcelona studio, unveiled its Jaguar-based XF10 concept at the Barcelona Motor Show.

The car wowed attendees with a mid-engined supercar mock-up.

In 2004, Fuore returned to the Geneva Motor Show with a bang, premiering the fully realised BlackJag concept car—a sleek evolution of the XF10.

Erwin Himmel, CEO of Fuore Design, described the BlackJag as a maturation from its predecessor, the XF10.

He said, ‘We wanted our XF10 to mature from a racy sports car to an elegant and sophisticated drive.’

The BlackJag was designed to merge the raw speed and the spirit of Formula One with Jaguar’s hallmark elegance.

Compared to the XF10, the BlackJag featured smoother air intakes, streamlined bumpers, a Jaguar-esque chrome grille, and better-integrated details like wing mirrors and exhausts.

The BlackJag was powered by a 7.0-litre V10 engine producing 640hp, promising a blistering 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 210 mph.

The car was 4.55 metres long, weighed just 1,350 kg, and built for speed and sophistication.

Modarte built the car. The concept was assembled in Turin under the direction of Italian prototype master Stefano Ardagna.

Like a rare black panther, the BlackJag remained a one-of-a-kind concept, never entering production.

In 2014, the BlackJag reappeared with a jaw-dropping price tag of €2.8 million, cementing its status as a collector’s dream.

After teasing the world with two Jaguar-based concepts, Fuore Design faded into obscurity, leaving behind the BlackJag as its magnum opus.

A bold blend of Formula One thrill and Jaguar luxury, the BlackJag remains a fleeting yet unforgettable moment in automotive history.

‘If elegance and aggression had a love child, it would look like the BlackJag.’
