‘Caterham’s proving that electrons can party just as hard as petrol.’
The iconic lightweight sports car maker has unveiled Project V, a sleek EV coupé that blends classic Caterham DNA with cutting-edge tech.
Yamaha’s e-axle powers it. It boasts 268bhp, a 0-62mph time of 4.5 seconds, and a WLTP range of 249 miles—all at just 1,190kg.
How does Caterham plan to electrify the driving experience?
In 2019, Caterham began exploring the EV market to retain its lightweight, purist-driving ethos.
Enter Project V, the company’s first fully electric coupé, designed from the ground up to merge electric power with Caterham’s iconic handling.
Yamaha steps in, not with a screaming V10, but with an advanced e-axle system, providing a compact and lightweight 268bhp rear-mounted motor.
The battery pack, developed by Xing Mobility, uses innovative immersion cooling technology for efficiency.
With a lightweight focus, Caterham targets an impressive kerb weight of 1,190kg, thanks to a chassis crafted from carbon fibre, glass fibre, and aluminium composites.
Project V accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 143mph. Its WLTP range of 249 miles ensures it’s as practical as it is fast.
Staying true to Caterham’s minimalistic DNA, the car features a simple, driver-focused cabin with a 2+1 seating layout (or optional 2+2).
Project V is scheduled for market release by late 2025, with a target starting price under £80,000.
With its blend of innovation and Caterham charm, Project V promises to electrify the world of lightweight sports cars.
‘Caterham going electric? That’s like swapping your morning espresso for green tea.’
