Alonso’s Missing Jewel

 🚩Motorsport’s Triple Crown

Monaco. Le Mans. Indianapolis.

Winning all three is motorsport’s unofficial Triple Crown, and Graham Hill remains its sole holder.

Fernando Alonso has won the first two; the Indianapolis 500 still eludes him.

As he weighs his racing future beyond 2026, endurance racing is back in the conversation.

The unfinished business, however, lies in Indiana.

♔ The full story

▪️1960s–72: Hill won Monaco four times, Indianapolis in 1966 and Le Mans in 1972.

Nobody has since completed the trio. Each race asks a different question of a driver; together, they form a formidable examination.

▪️2006–19: Alonso won Monaco in 2006 and 2007, then Le Mans in 2018 and 2019.

At Indianapolis in 2017, he led 27 laps before mechanical trouble ended his run.

His second attempt, in 2019, was another bid for the one prize missing from the cabinet.

▪️Now: With his Aston Martin F1 contract due for renewal after 2026, Alonso has said he wants to race in endurance again and is considering where his priorities lie.

He has also mentioned Dakar.

These are possibilities, rather than an announced departure from Formula One.

♔ The distinction: Another Le Mans victory would add lustre to an extraordinary career.

It would not complete the Triple Crown: Alonso already has that jewel.

Only an Indianapolis 500 win can put him alongside Hill.

📍 ‘One race, one oval, and rather more than 500 miles of unfinished business.’
