The Cat That Forgot to Purr

📍 ‘Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, and the motoring world has promptly divided into two camps.’

One sees a magnificent reinvention.

The other wonders whether somebody has redesigned a Jaguar using a ruler and a particularly strong espresso.

Once described as the ‘Pitbull of the Cat Family’, Jaguar has certainly rediscovered its bite.

But is this still a Jaguar?

♔ Full Story

▪️The Jaguar Type 01 has arrived.

▪️Subtlety, apparently, was not invited.

▪️Following the controversial Type 00 concept, Jaguar’s new electric grand tourer is an extraordinary departure from the marque’s familiar elegance.

▪️The design: An impossibly long bonnet, dramatic proportions, 23-inch wheels and no conventional rear window. Grace has given way to architectural theatre.

▪️The performance: Up to 1,030PS, three electric motors and 0–62mph in approximately 3.2 seconds. This particular cat has exceptionally sharp claws.

▪️The ambition: Jaguar is pursuing a wealthier, more exclusive clientele, challenging established luxury conventions rather than following them.

▪️The controversy: Traditionalists mourn the flowing lines of the E-type and XJ. Admirers see a courageous escape from decades of increasingly anonymous executive saloons.

♔ And the Pitbull?

▪️The nickname once captured Jaguar’s combination of feline elegance and muscular aggression.

▪️The Type 01 certainly possesses the aggression. Whether it retains the elegance is another matter entirely.

♔ The Fisherley View:

Jaguar has succeeded spectacularly in getting noticed.

The greater challenge is persuading buyers that controversy, however beautifully engineered, deserves a place in their garage.

📍 ‘The cat has teeth. Now it must prove it has pedigree.’
