Codename: P18

Remember the Holy Trinity, the McLaren P1, the Porsche 918 Spyder and the Ferrari LaFerrari.

Well, it looks as though McLaren will be the first angle of the new triangle, with the introduction of the McLaren P18 (codename) scheduled for later this year.

I understand that Porsche is developing an Electric Mission X, yet there are no rumours of Ferrari providing the third angle to complete the latest trigon.

According to Automotive News Europe, the P18 is Formula 1-inspired and expected to develop 1,000 horsepower from a hybrid configuration.

Interestingly, the new powertrain will weigh approximately 70% less than the current drivetrain.

The P18 will feature Gull-Wing doors rather than the traditional McLaren dihedral doors.

Using a V8 Combustion Engine aided by Hybrid technology is in keeping with McLaren’s CEO, Michael Leiters’ statement that ‘real supercars’ without combustion engines won’t emerge before 2030.

‘McLaren: Where speed meets sophistication, and rubber meets road.’
