Bertone Is Coming Back, Hurrah

01 December 2022

The original company declared bankruptcy in 2014.

And this wasn’t the troubled firm’s first brush with financial jeopardy. Bertone faced similar financial troubles in 2007, 2008, and 2011.

Over the last 100 years, few firms have penned more memorable and striking designs than Gruppo Bertone.

Bertone is the design company responsible for legendary cars such as the Lancia Stratos, Alfa Romeo Montreal, the Lamborghini Countach, Lamborghini Miura, and sports Berlinettas such as the Giulietta Sprint Speciale, the Aston Martin DB2/4 and the Maserati 3500 GT.

In 2014, Akka Technologies bought the brand and formed a new company, Bertone Design, sharing naming rights for industrial design projects.

Two brothers, Mauro and Jean-Franck Ricci, who recently purchased Bertone from Akka, are working on a revival for the iconic company. The brothers are passionate about motor cars, particularly Bertone’s history.

That passion has been responsible for a small number of images and a short video alluding to a Bertone supercar.

Good luck to Mauro and Jean-Franck; the world needs people who take pride in the craft of designing, fabricating and building motor cars, the exact qualities for which the Bertone family is famous.
