Renee Brinkerhoff is the Founder and Driver of Valkyrie Racing (named after the women in Norse mythology who would bring fallen warriors to Valhalla). She currently races a 1956 Porsche 356 A coupe in road and rally racing events.
In 2013, at the age of 57, in her first car race of any kind, Renee became the first woman in 30-year history to win her class in the La Carrera Panamericana, an event known as the world’s most dangerous road race.
Her next great adventure is her Project 356 World Rally Tour in her 1956 Porsche 356 A.
She will be driving 356 miles across Antarctica!
The plan is to fly the Porsche to Antarctica from Chile in November, with the escapade starting 05 December, all subject to the weather.
The car has skis on the front and is track-driven on the rear. At some point, she has to change both the skis and tracks to spiked tyres.
The Antarctic leg is the last section of the World Tour. And ‘world’ it has been. So far, she has raced across six different continents. At the same time, the racing team grew a philanthropic branch, Valkyrie Gives, with the ambition of raising 500,000 dollars to aid women and children at risk, with a particular focus on ending child trafficking.
British explorer Jason de Carteret will be co-pilot; he is a polar explorer and took part in the Ice Challenger Expedition and holds skiing and vehicle world records for polar exploration. He has led over 50 expeditions between the two poles; his knowledge and experience will be invaluable.
Every success; to a Force of Nature an Explorer and a Porsche 356 A.
