When you think of French luxury, you think of Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Givenchy, etc.
But not so with luxury motor cars, except Bugatti, which a Croatian car company, Rimac now owns.
But during the 50s, the French brand Facel was known for its elegant and fast luxurious tourers, especially among wealthy Europeans, Hollywoodites and even kings.
Among their clients are the Shah of Iran, Pablo Picasso, Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire, Ava Gardner, Joan Collins, Christian Dior, Max Factor, Ringo Starr and many more.
Facel Vega produced cars from 1954 to 1964, at which point it faced financial problems due to the cost of production and falling sales.
Occasionally, someone attempts to revive the marque, sadly without success.
One such attempt was in 2020 when ‘someone’ announced the Facel Vega Paris V launch.
There was a website, ‘Facel Vega, making a comeback’, but the website disappeared, and the interior configurator was linked to Bentley’s Continental GT configurator.
Facel Vega Paris immediately distanced them from the website, claiming ‘an outside party accessed it’.
It’s all very mysterious.
However, Facel stated, ‘the project is purely a study for now, and they’re simply gauging interest for a possible future version’.
We are still waiting in anticipation. Let’s hope it’s just taking a little longer than hoped.
After all:
‘Arriving fashionably late is only stylish if you arrive in style’.
